Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu Family
Sukhu’s father Rashil worked as a driver in Himachal Road Transport Corporation, Shimla. And Sukhu’s mother Sansar Dei was a housewife. Sukhu spent his childhood with his four siblings. His elder brother Rajiv is retired from the army. He also has two sisters who are married.

Then General Secretary and later President of Government Degree College, Sanjauli, Shimla in the years 1983-1984 and 1984-1985 respectively. In 1985-1986, for the Law Department of Himachal Pradesh University, Sukhu was also elected as Department Representative (DR).
Sukhwinder’s Political Career
- Sukhwinder Singh’s political career began as a student activist when he joined the National Student Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress.
- From 1989 to 1995, he served as the state president of the NSUI.
- Sukhu was appointed the General Secretary of the State Youth Congress from 1995 to 1998 and later as its President from 1998 to 2008. His commitment to political and social work has always been commendable.
- Apart from this, Sukhwinder Singh served as a Councillor in the Municipal Corporation, Shimla from 1993-1998 and from 1998 to 2003.
- After this, his leadership within the Congress party grew and then from 2008 to 2012, he played the role of General Secretary of the State Congress Committee.
- Sukhu led the state unit of the party from 8 January 2013 to 11 January 2019 and became the president of the Pradesh Congress Committee.
